. They are studies after a much admired artist who did many abstract landscapes but his Berkley Series … my favorites!

I have already warmed up the sky in rear, refined the figure and reworked the entire painting. The painted was mounted on an archival “artboard”.

In this step I “block in” the painting and create ‘puzzle shapes”. I start to work on colors to be used and typically this is a raw painting that will go through much tweaking. But t this step helps guide me to where work will be needed and changes can be easily made.

In the step I draw out my focal point, a curve to indicate direction and to guide me with where the drawing should be. I give some thought to the composition. I quickly sketch in oil the outlines of the drawing.

This scene is from Co. Kerry. We were on our way to the Gap of Dunloe. Just after getting out of a boat we proceeded to walk the path towards the Gap.
